How to Play Gotham

Game Objective

The goal of Gotham is to move all 104 cards to the foundation piles. You achieve this by building sequences of cards up by suit. Sequences may be built around-the-corner. You win when the eight foundations each contain a complete sequence of thirteen cards.

Foundation Rules

  • There are eight foundations.
  • Any card may serve as the initial base rank for an empty foundation.
  • The foundations build up by the same suit. Foundations can build around-the-corner (an Ace may move onto a King).
  • For example the 5♠ may move onto the 4♠ and the 5♦ may move onto the 4♦. Starting with the J♥ the following sequence can build on top Q♥ K♥ A♥ 2♥.

Tableau Rules

  • There are eight tableaus.
  • Any card may move to an empty tableau.
  • The tableaus build down by rank regardless of suit.
  • For example the 8♠ may move onto the 9♠, 9♥, 9♣ and 9♦. Starting with the 8♥ the following sequence can build on top 7♠ 6♠ 5♦ 4♣.
  • Sequences of cards built down by the same suit can move together as a group.

Stock Rules

  • The top card is movable.

Waste Rules

  • There are three wastes.
  • The top card of the stock may move to a waste pile.
  • The top card is movable.
