Chequers Solitaire

Chequers is played with two standard decks (104 cards). There are twenty-five tableaus that contain four cards each. The objective is to move all cards to the four foundations by building them up by the same suit.

How to Play Chequers

Build aces foundations up by the same suit. Fill empty aces foundations with Aces of unique suits. Build kings foundations down by the same suit. Build tableaus up or down by the same suit and wrap around on Kings and Aces. Empty tableaus automatically fill from the reserve then with any card.

Game Objective

The goal of Chequers is to move all 104 cards to the foundation piles. You achieve this by building sequences of cards up by the same suit that start with an Ace and end with a King. You win when the four foundations each contain a complete sequence of thirteen cards.

Aces Foundation Rules

  • There are four aces foundations.
  • The aces foundations are initially empty.
  • The aces foundations build up by the same suit.
  • For example the 7♠ may move onto the 6♠ and the 7♦ may move onto the 6♦. Starting with the 7♥ the following sequence may build on top 8♥ 9♥ 10♥ J♥.
  • An Ace may move to an empty aces foundation so long as each suit is different.

Kings Foundation Rules

  • There are four kings foundations.
  • The kings foundations are initially empty.
  • The kings foundations build down by the same suit.
  • For example the 10♠ may move onto the J♠ and the 10♥ may move onto the J♥. Starting with the 10♥ the following sequence may build on top 9♥ 8♥ 7♥ 6♥.
  • A King may move to an empty kings foundation so long as each suit is different.

Tableau Rules

  • There are twenty-five tableaus.
  • Initially containing four cards face up in each tableau.
  • The tableaus build up or down by the same suit. Tableaus may build around either corner (an Ace may move onto a King or a King may move onto an Ace).
  • For example the 9♠ may move onto the 8♠ or the 10♠. Starting with the Q♥ the following sequence may build on top K♥ A♥ K♥ Q♥.
  • The top card is movable.
  • Empty spaces are automatically populated with a card from the reserve. When the reserve is empty any single card may move to an empty tableau.

Reserve Rules

  • There is one reserve.
  • Initially containing four cards face down.
  • The top card is movable.
  • Once empty the reserve remains empty.
