Arizona Solitaire

Arizona is an open game (all 52 cards are displayed face up at the beginning of the game). There are six tableaus that contain six cards each. The objective is to build the four foundations up by suit from Ace to King.

Odds of winning: Very High

Win about 9 in 10 games (90%).

Skill Level: Mostly Skill

Winning is mostly determined by skill. A small amount of luck is involved.

How to Play Arizona

Game Objective

Move all cards to the four foundations.

Foundation Rules

  • There are four foundations.
  • An Ace may move to an empty foundation.
  • The foundations build up by the same suit.
  • For example the 7♠ may move onto the 6♠ and the 7♦ may move onto the 6♦. Starting with the 7♦ the following sequence can build on top 8♦ 9♦ 10♦ J♦.
  • The top card is movable.

Tableau Rules

  • There are six tableaus.
  • Any card may move to an empty tableau.
  • The tableaus build down by rank regardless of suit.
  • For example the J♠ may move onto the Q♠, Q♥, Q♣ and Q♦. Starting with the J♥ the following sequence can build on top 10♠ 9♠ 8♦ 7♣.
  • Sequences of cards built down by rank can move together as a group. The sequences can build down regardless of suit.

Reserve Rules

  • There are sixteen reserves.
  • The top card is movable.

Stock Rules

  • An unlimited number of passes through the stock is permitted. There is no restriction on how many times the waste can be redealt to the stock.
  • The stock deals one card face up to the waste when tapped.
